History
AC Milan, then managed by Arrigo Sacchi, finished second in Serie A behind Sampdoria. In the European Cup, the Milanese club was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Olympique de Marseille in a controversial ending. The team remained solid defensively but scored fewer goals than in previous seasons. Marco van Basten was the team's top scorer with 11 goals. This season also marked the end of the Sacchi era, as he was replaced the following summer by Fabio Capello.
