History
Upon their return to La Liga, Real Betis surprised everyone by finishing in an excellent third place under the management of Lorenzo Serra Ferrer. The team relied on a solid defense and the effectiveness of players like Alfonso Pérez. In 1996/97, Betis confirmed their good form with a fourth-place finish in La Liga and reached the final of the Copa del Rey, where they lost to FC Barcelona. The club then established itself as a serious contender in the Spanish league.
