History
The French national team had a strong run at Euro 1996, held in England. Led by Aimé Jacquet, they reached the semi-finals. They were in the midst of rebuilding after failing to qualify for the 1994 World Cup. With a new generation of promising players like Zinédine Zidane and Laurent Blanc, they also relied on experienced veterans such as Didier Deschamps and Marcel Desailly.
