History
Brazil, the defending champions, had a strong run at the 1998 World Cup in France. The Seleção finished top of their group, then eliminated Chile (4-1), Denmark (3-2), and the Netherlands in the semi-finals on penalties. In the final at the Stade de France, an unrecognizable Brazil suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat against France. Ronaldo's pre-match collapse remains one of the great mysteries and controversies in World Cup history.
Wearing this jersey, Brazil dominated the 1999 Copa América held in Paraguay, winning its sixth continental title. The Seleção finished first in its group with three victories, including a historic 7-0 thrashing of Venezuela. In the quarterfinals, they eliminated Argentina (2-1), then outclassed Mexico in the semifinals (2-0). In the final in Asunción, Brazil defeated Uruguay 3-0.
