History
Host nation France achieved a historic run at the 1998 World Cup. Aimé Jacquet's Les Bleus finished top of their group with three wins, then eliminated Paraguay (1-0 after extra time), Italy on penalties, and Croatia (2-1, with a brace from Thuram) in the semi-finals. In the final at the Stade de France, France defeated Brazil 3-0 thanks to a brace from Zidane and a goal from Petit, securing their first World Cup title.
