History
At the 1998 World Cup in France, Romania had a very good run in the group stage, finishing first ahead of England, with two wins and a draw. In the round of 16, they were eliminated by Croatia on a penalty by Šuker. Their technical and attacking style of play marked one of Romania's last great performances on the world stage.
