History
Real Madrid had a disappointing season despite significant investment, notably with the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká, Benzema, and Xabi Alonso. Under Manuel Pellegrini's management, the club finished second in La Liga with 96 points, behind FC Barcelona. In the Champions League, Real were eliminated early in the round of 16 by Lyon. This season without a major title led to Pellegrini's dismissal at the end of the year.
