At the 2014 World Cup, Mexico had a strong group stage run, finishing second behind Brazil, with a memorable performance from Guillermo Ochoa. The team defeated Cameroon, drew with Brazil, and then beat Croatia. In the round of 16, Mexico was controversially eliminated by the Netherlands after a disputed penalty late in the match.
